Who can attend?
Participants must be 18 – 27 years of age and demonstrate interest in cultivating leadership potential and advocating for the Sikh American community. Recent graduates and young professionals are welcome and encouraged to apply.

How much will it cost me?
The program fee for the LDP program is $250.  This subsidized rate is due to generous support from community members and corporate sponsors.  Limited need based financial assistance is available.

What about travel arrangements?
SALDEF will work with participants to make travel arrangements. Plan to arrive on Friday, Oct. 5 before 5:00 PM and leave no earlier than 3:00 PM on Monday, Oct. 8. The nearest airports to the hotel are Dulles Airport (IAD) and Reagan National Airport (DCA).

When is LDP taking place?
Part I of LDP will take place from October 5 – October 8, 2012 in Washington, DC.  Part II will take place from May 24 – May 27th, 2013 in Los Angeles, CA.

How are participants chosen?
Participants must submit a completed application form. Successful candidates are chosen based on their experience, skills and demonstrated interest in leadership and personal development.

When can I expect to know about the status of my application?
Applicants will be notified within two weeks of the application deadline.

What can I expect to get out of LDP?
The Leadership Development Program seeks to inspire, train, and support young Sikh leaders as they prepare for a lifetime of community engagement and community leadership.

The Leadership Development Program consists of a unique set of personal training and coaching sessions which brings together Sikh American youth for a weekend of leadership training, personal development, and networking opportunities.

The purpose of this opportunity is to develop future leaders committed to exploring and realizing both their personal potential and that of the Sikh American community.

Where will I stay?
For Part I, participants will stay at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, DC. For Part II, participants will stay at the Radisson on the campus of University of Southern California. You will be requested to share a room with another participant

What should I bring?
Further information will be provided closer to the program. The dress code during the day is business casual. Bring comfortable shoes, as we will be walking. An umbrella and coat may also be necessary. We recommend that you check the weather in advance, especially those who are coming from much warmer parts of the country.

Please note that all participants will attend SALDEF’s National Gala on Saturday, October 6, 2012. The dress code for the gala is formal evening attire (including Punjabi or Indian evening attire).
